Wow, really good music. I didn’t recognize it at first. This is also due to the fact that the MV has a sub-optimal audio quality, more precisely audio mixdown. Then I played around a little with the equalizer and realized what  power this has if one put in more brilliance. Then I listened to the song on Spotify – and – BOOM, it’s really good tuned with trebble and bass and let one feel the energy and the whole drive of the 5 girls from SECRET NUMBER. You have to dance, you can’t deny.

Wow, echt gute Musik. Hab ich zuerst nicht erkannt. Das liegt auch daran, dass das MV eine nicht optimale Audio-Qualität, genauer gesagt Audio-Abschmischung besitzt. Hab dann mittels Equalizer etwas rumgespielt und gemerkt, was für eine Power drinsteckt, wenn man mehr Brillanz rein gibt. Dann habe ich mir den Song auf Spotify angehört – und – BOOM, da ist er richtig getunt mit Höhen und Tiefen und kommt voll rüber mit voller Energie und dem ganzen Drive der 5 Girls von SECRET NUMBER. Da muss man mittanzen.

Impressive what LOONA presents with ‚Why Not‘. No, not mainstream like the just released ‚Lovesick Girls‘ by BLACKPINK, but on a high artistic level. So LOONA completely exceeds my expectations. With ‚So What‘ I couldn’t really befriend myself, is too striking for me and the music is rather average, especially compared to ‚Butteryfly‘, which is musically very creative. ‚Why Not‘ follows on from this and further raises the level. Especially the combination of the different levels makes me almost dizzy. The whole project seems somehow almost weightless and upwards lifting like Kim Lip @2:49 or like the light-footed dance on the moon @2:34. This music video has so many levels of expression, all of which have a high artistic significance in their own way, such as the individual scenes and their visual implementation, i.e. the expressiveness of the girls, e.g. how Heejin begins in the opening scene @0:13 with ‚I’m a Bad Girl‘, and then the dance in the supermarket @0:46 and many others. Every scene in itself is almost a work of art. In addition, there is the music, the singing, the Korean words and their phonetic resonence. Last but not least, the choreography. In hardly any other MV are these elements so perfectly combined and arranged and show particularly impressively what makes K-POP so interesting. This hardly achieves any other MV of the current POP music of any origin. Yes ‚Why Not‘ by Loona absolutely inspires me.

Beeindruckend was LOONA mit ‚Why Not‘ hier präsentiert. Nein Mainstream ist das nicht, wie etwa das gerade erschienene ‚Lovesick Girls‘ von BLACKPINK, dafür aber auf einem hohen künstlerischem Niveau. Damit übertrifft LOONA meine Erwartungen komplett. Mit ‚So What‘ konnte ich mich nicht so recht anfreunden, ist mir zu plakativ und die Musik eher durchschnittlich, vor allem verglichen mit ‚Butteryfly‘, was musikalisch sehr kreativ ist. Daran knüpft ‚Why Not‘ an und erhöht das Niveau weiter. Vor allem die Kombination der verschiedenen Ebenen macht mich fast schwindelig. Das ganze Projekt erscheint irgendwie fast schwerelos und emporzusteigen so wie Kim Lip @2:49 oder der Tanz auf dem Mond @2:34. Dieses Musik-Video hat so viele Ausdrucksebenen, die alle für sich schon einen hohen künsterlischen Ausdruck haben, wie die einzelnen Szenen und ihre visuelle Umsetzung, das heißt die Präsenz der Girls, z.B. wie Heejin in der Anfangsszene @0:13 mit ‚I’m a Bad Girl‘ beginnt, und dann der Tanz im Supermarkt @0:46 und viele andere. Jede Szene ist für sich genommen schon fast ein Kunstwerk. Hinzu kommt die Musik, der Gesang, die koreanischen Worte und ihre phonetische resonenz. Nicht zuletzt aber auch die Choreografie. In kaum einem anderen MV sind diese Elemente so perfekt kombiniert und arrangiert und zeigen besonders eindrucksvoll, was K-POP so interessant macht. Dies schafft kaum ein MV von aktueller POP-Musik egal welchen Ursprungs. Ja ‚Why Not‘ von Loona begeistert mich total.

In eigener Sache: An so einer Seite sitze ich über 2 Stunden. Eigentlich sollte wenigstens so viel in allen Artikeln zu sehen sein, doch mir fehlt die Zeit dazu.

The text I have already written is incomplete and I want to revise it once more.

NATURE’s new music video with the song ‚Girls‘ presents partly confusing image sequences and scenes that are difficult to consume.

Even the thumbnail of the video makes me shrug, a stiletto-like object right in front of an open eye. The music and the singing of the Girls of NATURE are really good, remain in the ear also in conjunction with the sound of the words like 애 [ae] in 어린 애. This is also the Korean title. In the title of the music video ‚Girls‘, is written in brackets behind it, the English title.  But this is not a translation, because >Girls< means in Korean 소녀 und
어린 애 heißt >little child<. This is the beginning of the textual confusion of the content, because everything somehow does not fit together, the supposed meaning of the text, the music and the pictures.

Der Text, den ich bereits geschrieben habe, ist unvollständig und ich möchte ihn noch einmal überarbeiten.

Das neue Music-Video von NATURE mit dem Song ‚Girls‘ präsentiert teilweise verwirrende Bildsequenzen und Szenen, die nur schwer konsumierbar sind.

Schon das Vorschaubild des Videos lässt einen zusammenzucken, ein Stilett ähnliches Objekt direkt vor einem geöffneten Auge. Die Musik und der Gesang der Girls von NATURE sind wirklich gut, bleiben im Ohr auch in Verbindung mit dem Klang der Worte wie das Wort 애 [ae] in 어린 애. Das ist auch der koreanische Original-Titel. Im Titel des Musik-Videos steht in Klammern dahinter ‚Girls‘, wohl der englische Titel. Doch das ist keine Übersetzung, denn >Girls< heißt auf Koreanisch 소녀 und
어린 애 heißt >kleines Kind<. Damit beginnt die textlich inhaltliche Verwirrung, denn alles passt irgendwie nicht zusammen, die vermeintliche Bedeutung des Textes, die Musik und die Bilder.

OK. Lee Hi is making her comeback with Holo today on July 23, 2020. This video affects me. I’m lost for words. Below the video I found a comment from 13anana13ri, who tries to find an explanation. I think this is a good explanation, so I write it down here:

„MV Explanation/Theory:
Holo 홀로 means alone in korean. MV begins featuring a girl in blue/black (Hayi) looking out in the night. Then when the sky brightens, the girl in blue (representing depression/loneliness) dangles her feet over the edge of the building as if she’s contemplating jumping. Hayi in white (morning/hope) sings that loneliness feels the same with or without company, then she leans against the girl dressed in blue/black and pats her back @0:47 reassuring her that “one day it will stop.”

Then we see a cartoon on TV with the lyrics “isn’t everything supposed to happen as it’s said or thought,” almost as if her childhood self naively believed this to be true. She feels so lonely that she can’t even enjoy the simple pleasures of “basking in the sunlight” and “not even a deep breath” (ref to her song Breathe) can make things better. Then we see a young girl (her childhood self) lying in bed, and a hand belonging to angel Hayi reaching out to her @1:11 with the same lyrics “one day it will stop.” The tempo starts to pick up at the same time a there’s lyrical shift from the earlier melancholy tone to Hayi picking her self up with „I’m going to stop crying, stop feeling, stop thinking about you“.

Hayi then runs and plays with the child as she sings she’ll start to take care of herself more. After countless sleepless nights, she finally understands that she’s “too precious to sit around and worry” about how she compares with others. “It’s okay to be yourself.” The MV plays with altitude/elevation with Hayi diving into the water towards the child, as she’s searching within herself and when she climbs the staircase representing personal growth. It seems as if Hayi has found herself and she no longer wants to end everything, whether by drowning or jumping, anymore.

Then Hayi and the girl are enjoying themselves again in the sunlight, something that didn’t make her feel better before. She keeps on spinning (playground, rooftop) because her thoughts are cluttering her mind but “*I’m* going to stop.” Hayi stands still. She questions if being alone and staying still is that difficult? One day it will stop and the camera pans to a bright sunny day. Essentially Holo touches on our feelings of loneliness and societal pressures, but through this song, Hayi asks us to look within and accept ourselves. To give ourselves hope and comfort to continue on. You are your own hero, savior, and angel. This is evident as the MV purposefully chooses to only feature Hayi as she’s the child, the lonely girl in blue, girl in white, and angel. It’s a perfect sequel to “Breathe” and notice how both MVs have Hayi standing on top of buildings looking out on the Seoul skyline.“

Schön. Lee Hi gibt heute am 23.7.2020 mit Holo ihr Comeback. Mich macht dieses Video betroffen. Mir fehlen die Worte. Unter dem Video findet sich ein Kommentar von 13anana13ri, der in Englisch versucht eine Erklärung zu finden. Diesen Text habe ich übersetzt und hier veröffentlicht. Den Originaltext habe ich unter der englischen Spalte eingefügt.

„Erklärung únd Theorie des Musik-Videos:
Holo 홀로 bedeutet ‚allein‘ auf Koreanisch. Das Musik-Video zeigt ein Mädchen in Blau/Schwarz (Hayi), das nachts nach draußen schaut. Wenn sich der Himmel aufhellt, baumelt das Mädchen in Blau (was Depression / Einsamkeit darstellt) mit den Füßen über den Rand des Gebäudes, als würde sie über nachdenken, zu springen. Dann sehen wir ein junges Mädchen (ihr Selbst aus der Kindheit) im Bett liegen und wie eine Hand von Engel Hayi mit den gleichen Texten ‚eines Tages wird es aufhören‘ um 1:11 nach ihr greift. Das Tempo nimmt zu, zur gleichen Zeit gibt es eine lyrische Verschiebung vom früheren melancholischen Klang zu Hayi, die sich mit ‚Ich werde aufhören zu weinen, aufhören zu fühlen, aufhören an dich zu denken‘ wieder aufnimmt.

Hayi rennt dann und spielt mit dem Kind, während sie singt, dass sie mehr auf sich selbst aufpassen wird. Nach unzähligen schlaflosen Nächten versteht sie endlich, dass sie zu kostbar ist, um herumzusitzen und sich Sorgen darüber zu machen, wie sie im Vergleich zu anderen ist. ‚Es ist okay, du selbst zu sein.‘  Das MV spielt mit Höhe / und Hochkommen, während Hayi in Richtung des Kindes ins Wasser taucht, während sie in sich selbst sucht und wenn sie die Treppe hinaufsteigt, die persönliches Wachstum darstellt. Es scheint, als ob Hayi sich selbst gefunden hat und nicht mehr alles beenden will, sei es durch Ertrinken oder Springen, jemals mehr.

Dann amüsieren sich Hayi und das Mädchen wieder im Sonnenlicht, etwas, das sie vorher nicht besser fühlen ließ. Sie dreht sich weiter (Spielplatz, Dach), weil ihre Gedanken ihren Geist verwirren, aber ‚*ich* werde aufhören‘. Hayi steht still. Sie fragt sich, ob es so schwierig ist, allein zu sein und still zu bleiben? Eines Tages hört es auf und die Kamera schwenkt auf einen strahlend sonnigen Tag. Im Wesentlichen berührt Holo unsere Gefühle der Einsamkeit und des gesellschaftlichen Drucks, aber durch dieses Lied bittet Hayi uns, nach innen zu schauen und uns selbst zu akzeptieren. Um uns Hoffnung und Trost zu geben, um weiterzumachen. Du bist dein eigener Held, Retter und Engel. Dies ist offensichtlich, da dieses Musik-Video absichtlich nur Hayi als Kind, das einsame Mädchen in Blau, das Mädchen in Weiß und den Engel zeigt. Es ist eine perfekte Fortsetzung von ‚Breathe‘ und beachte, wie beide Musik-Videos Hayi auf Gebäuden stehen lassen, auf die Skyline von Seoul blickend.“

SOMI (전소미) – ‚What You Waiting For‘ M/V

Wow, I love her comeback. SOMI is a stunner. Powerful, distinctive voice a really good tune at a high level, but above all good to hear, I like it. With quite a few music videos, I feel that it is ok after 3 1/2 minutes. But this is different, I could listen to her endlessly. The visual implementation is a bit wild and a little shrill, but amusing and delightful, I’m curious how SOMI presents herself in the music shows. Wishing her to make it to the top, she deserves it.

And what does she say at 2:19 ? Ring the alarm?

Wow, das Comeback gefällt mir. SOMI ist eine Wucht. Powervolle, markante Stimme ein echt guter Tune auf hohem Niveau, vor allem aber gut zu hören, mag ich. Bei nicht wenigen Musik-Videos geht es mir so, dass es dann gut ist, nach 3 1/2 Minuten. Doch das hier ist anders, ich könnte ihr endlos weiter zuhören. Die visuelle Umsetzung ist etwas wild und ein wenig schrill, doch amüsant und reizvoll, bin gespannt, wie SOMI sich in den Music-Shows präsentiert. Wünsche ihr, dass Sie es ganz nach oben schafft, verdient hat sie das allemal.

Und was sagt sie hier bei 2:19 ? Ring the alarm?
